DEFEND OUR DEN sign the petition now.... Regeneration land grab

DEFEND OUR DEN

The popular Lions Community Centre under attack from Lewisham Council

Lewisham council are close to selling the land around Millwall which includes the stadium car park and the much praised Millwall Community Trust building (Lions Centre) to a developer Renewal who's holding company is off-shore registered. How can a off-shore registered company be part of the community and transparent in their day-to-day dealings? They cannot, you move your operation off shore for one reason, avoiding tax. It all sounds a bit dicky to me.

For the Millwall's fan on the board comment:
http://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/article/peter-garston-lewisham-council-millwall-football-club-renewal-2956243.aspx
There is a link within this article which shows the statement that Millwall's chairmain John Berylson has penned to Lewisham council.

17/2/16
At the Lewisham Council cabinet meeting regarding this land grab it was said "it has come to our notice that the circumstances of the Compulsory Purchase Order necessitate further investigation before this matter can be considered"

There is now a referral to this sell off of our our land and now it's a chance for Millwall FC to voice it's aspirations for the club and it's assets and let them know we have every right to be involved in decisions that will impact on the club and all of our futures.. We must get this right

18/2/16- 9.25pm: The petition has now reached 17000 and still climbing. The comments left on the web-site by people who signed the petition are amazing and it shows that not just Millwall supporters are against this council madness, thanks to them all including George from Crawley.

8/9/16-Six cabinet members on Lewisham Council voted for CPO for the land around around the ground and we are shafted by six cabinet members who are extra cosy with the off shore property developer company Renewal. They are also shafting our local neighbours at the Den and in cahoots with Renewal offering derisory amounts of compensation for the land. John Berylson has stated that "we are not going to give in and it still can be stopped. 25000 have now signed the Defend Our Den petition. Six people voted for this nonsense and if that's democracy I'm the pope.

Millwall 1 Barnsley 3, League One Play-Off Final, Wembley, 29/5/16 att: 51,277 (30,000)

YET ANOTHER TRIP TO WEMBLEY

I don't know this bloke

The lot I was with got there 3 hours early but it didn't matter as there is always lots to see and do before a Wembley game. Plenty of pre-match buzz around the place and even at the early hour many Millwall were streaming out of Wembley Park Tube Station ready for the game that would top the season off. I wanted us to stuff this lot from Barnsley who have spent the last two weeks slagging us off and they really are utter pillock's who hide behind keyboards and insult from afar. We took 30,000 to this game and although the total did not match the numbers we have took before to Wembley we were everywhere before the game and made up the bulk of the crowd and most of the noise once inside the stadium.

Having a beer

I had been confident all week that we would beat Barnsley but now the doubts were setting in, I tried to shrug them off but...........

Ben Thompson:   I did wonder what was going through his mind as it wasn't too long ago he was following the Wall like us and would more or less be doing the same thing and without much doubt as a supporter of the Lions thinking " this is Millwall we are talking about and disappointment could be just around the next corner:  A incredible journey for him and just a few years later wearing the shirt and coming out the tunnel to the thunderous roar of the Millwall crowd. If it was me they would probably have to call a ambulance as my heart would be coming out my shirt and my knees would be knocking. How would he play?

                                                            HARVEY BROWN LEADS THEM OUT

The Lions press but wide it goes

A game too far?

About the same as the rest of the team would be the answer to that question and after a long hard season it seemed to be a game too far.  We didn't play to any expectations and performed well below par. They made the game easy for Barnsley and they won it with some good finishing after moments of play where we didn't compete or win the second ball. We had bad luck when Bryon Webster had to drop out shortly before the start due to the injury he picked up in the 2nd leg of the Bradford City game. Was it bad luck or bad judgement that he declared that he was fit to start? Tony Craig come on in his place and took the Captains arm band from Steve Morison, I presume from the nod of Neil Harris. Steve Morison worked hard throughout the game trying to create but it wasn't to be his day or anybody else's. Due to injury we lost Joe Martin near the end of the first half which depleted our normal back four even more and not forgetting that Mahlon Romeo was also missing from the back line as he was suspended.  Shane Ferguson dropped into the left back position and Aiden O'Brien came on and played down the left but no super sub status as he produced very little.

Shed loads of Wall

The start of the game could have resulted in us taking the lead just after kick off but Barnsley went down the other end and went 1-0 up when Carlos Edwards was beaten to the challenge and Barnsley fired the ball home. The 30,000 went quiet for a second but then quickly got back into song to roar the Lions on. It did not work as Barnsley scored their second with nearly 20 minutes on the clock when a shot from outside the box curled into the top corner with Jordan Archer well beaten.
Mark Beevers was putting in a shift without Bryon Webster and scored ten minutes before half-time when he picked the ball up after a sort of miss-hit from Tony Craig and near the six yard line he spun and buried the ball home. Game on.

Game on

The second half and we had a few chances to equalise and Aiden O'Brien come close when Steve Morison crossed and O'Brien picked up the ball and shot but the keeper was in position to save without moving. The third Barnsley goal we conceded from a corner when Jordan Archer and others failed to clear or collect the ball and Barnsley's pint sized winger Lloyd Isgrove managed to out jump our back line and and his glancing header ended up in the back of the net. Chris Taylor had a effort late on but it wasn't to be and League One again next year. The away support rubbed it in which is to be expected and there was a small scuffle up on the upper tier which didn't result in much and was missed by many but managed to make head-line status. It is Millwall so to be expected.

I am having a couple of weeks off with this blog and unless the mood takes me to post something 'see you next season COYL

Millwall 1 Bradford City 1, League One Play-Off 2nd leg, 20/5/16, att: 16, 301 ( 1,718)

COME ON YOU LIONS

The special times continue

The Den was rocking tonight and the team did their job to near perfection and the only shot that I can remember from Bradford that was on target is the one they scored from and even that was saved and they got the lucky bounce.

The biggest crowd of the season and the Den is a cauldron of noise

We earn over the two games a 4-2 aggregate score and we are off to Wembley for the play-off final. We play Barnsley who made it through their two games against Walsall with a 6-1 aggregate score.
The final is next Sunday so tickets to sort this week and a trip across London to follow.

Nights like this is moments I treasure, there's no ground like the Den, my ears are still ringing

Amazing scenes of celebration as the Lions take us to Wembley

That put a few noses out of joint especially around the Bradford and Barnsley area. The amount of abuse of us and the team on social media was intense. They wanted a Yorkshire derby at Wembley and they certainty did not want us. They accused the team of cheating when it was plain to see to all that we were the better team and worked hard over the two legs to earn our trip to Wembley. Our celebration on the pitch was something sinister and we were scum for doing it but it's ok for every other clubs supporters to do it and in fact Bradford fans done it themselves a few years back after  they were playing Northampton.

WE ARE LOUD WE ARE PROUD AND WE ARE IN YOUR FACE
BUT WE AIN'T NO BABY EATERS

Neil Harris has done something amazing

Wembley here we come and we go again

EVERY NOW AND THEN WE ARE BLESSED WITH SPECIAL TIMES

I had a bounce in my step today as I headed for work and I couldn't wait to talk about football when I got there. Roll on Friday.

LET THEM ALL COME DOWN TO THE DEN

With a two goal lead to take back to the Den this Friday night things are looking good. I know it's still only half-time and there is still a lot to do but we are now back at our place and I have just heard that all the home tickets are gone and its sold out.  Bring on the roar and bring on the Lions.

When we went 1-0 down Saturday because Joe Martin felt the need to handle the ball in the box and concede a penalty I am sure a few of us said, "oh shit" when they scored from the spot and were expecting the worse to follow but then to watch shortly after Lee Gregory collect a ball from Steve Morison, spin and the fire the ball passed the Bradford keeper was a joy and a goal of great craft. With the score back to 1-1 and Millwall pushing for more Steve Morison with great presence run into space from a Shane Ferguson corner and with a powerful header beat the keeper just under the bar. The keeper was clutching thin air for that and he was again just before half-time when a superb Joe Martin free kick curled just inside the right-hand post and we had the game in the bag.. Bradford went for it second half but apart from a Bradford miss from when Carlos Edwards lost the ball on the by-line we finished the game in control and we looked solid all over the pitch. That's 45 goals between Lee Gregory and Steve Morison this season and a chance to add some more.

From the Yorkshire Post--A big ask for Bradford, going to Bloomfield Road or the Perelli Stadium and overcoming a first leg deficit is one thing. Doing it at Millwall in front of arguably the most hostile crowd in English football is quite another.

As I said earlier roll on Friday night

Gillingham 1 Millwall 2, League One, Final Game 46, 8/5/16, att: 9,375 (we take a restricted 1,213)

That's the regular season over with and we finish 4th in the league. How it pans out in the play-off's is anybody's guess but whatever happens it's been a decent season with Neil Harris gaining experience with every game and the team showing that touch of class on more than one occasion. Our strikers have been outstanding and other players have also been banging them in and we finish the 3rd highest scorers in the league and only been beaten 3 times in 2016. After the few years of dross that went before we now have our spirit and desire back and also our soul.

PLAYED 46--WON 24--DRAWN 9--LOST 13 =81 POINTS

REMEMBER THE PRIZE

This was a game that Gillingham must win if they wanted a chance of making the play-off's but we wasn't keen to let them and with the help of the travelling Wall we were more than up for it and got the winner in the 98th minute when Lee Gregory was felled in the box, he took the penalty and scored his 25th goal of the season..
Last ten.....WDWDWLWWWW *that's impressive*

We took the lead in the 55th minute when Aiden O'Brien pounced on a loose ball that come off the keeper after a Steve Morison shot and cue the knees up in the packed away section and other bits of the ground were the travelling Wall support had managed to bag some tickets. We now continued to play some decent football and with the Gillingham supporters and the home side management receiving reports that Barnsley, Bradford and Scunthorpe were all winning the writing was on the wall for them and it was just pride to play for. They were giving a helping hand when in the 86th minute Mahlon Romeo was sent off for steaming into a challenge with intent but did not make contact with the player. We are appealing against this red and if we are not successful Romeo will miss all the play-off games including Wembley if we get there.
This sending off gave Gillingham a burst of energy and two minutes into extra time they scored form close range and levelled the score. We didn't settle for a draw and deep into extra time Lee Gregory who after his stomach operation game on as a sub earlier in the game replacing Aide O'Brien was clobbered while bearing down on the Gillingham goal and he buried the resulting penalty kick.We finish with four wins on the trot and we have momentum.

We have been banging in the goals and we are the 3rd highest scorers in the league with 73 goals. We also have the 2nd best goal difference in the league with a +24. We have won the same amount of games as Wigan who finished the season as champions and only second place Burton has won more games than us winning 25. Neil Harris has done well in his first full season in charge and with the help of his right hand man David Livermore.we finish comfortably in a play off spot.

Bring on the Play-off's

The play-off's start soon and our first game in this knock-out competition is the first leg away to Bradford City  next Sunday the 15th of May. A bit of a journey for this one and it's a 12:45 kick off which takes no consideration for the travelling support
.
Play off 2nd leg 20/5/16
Friday night at the Den 7:45 and hopefully on to Wembley

Red card appeal was never going to be anything but.....

We appealed against Mahlon Romeo's red card but that was a waste of time, it still stands so he missing the play-off games. Neil Harris is charged by the FA for being sent to the stand in the same game when he complained about the Romeo sending off. I wonder what delight they have in mind for him.

Saturday 30 April 2016

Millwall 3 Oldham 0, League One, Game 45, 30/4/16, att: 12, 419 (584)

That keeps us in 3rd spot but Walsall still have a game in hand

That old lion is once again showing it's teeth

78 POINTS

I can say for certain now that the Lions are in the play-off's but Burton's win over Gillingham makes sure that a Millwall chance for the automatic 2nd spot is not possible. Oldham had only lost one game in the last eight but a visit to the Den spoilt that decent run and it only took four minutes for them to go behind. Bryon Webster got his head on the ball after some good play from Steve Morison and Chris Taylor and sent the Den into orbit as his header hit the back of the net. Oldham were pushing for the equaliser and had chances but supporters player of the year Jordan Archer was on his usual form as he kept them at bay. Steve Morison come close with a lob and Lee Martin hit the crossbar and six minutes before half time the Wall went 2-0 up when a "cheeky" back heal from Aiden O'Brien went to Shane Ferguson and he tucked it away at the back post.

We add another goal to our tally and that is six home wins on the bounce
Jordan Archer was called upon yet again when Oldham had a busy spell at the start of the second half and a combination of Archer's saves and Oldham's woeful finishing meant that it stayed 2-0 and it was the Lions that scored again when Webster scored his second when he got on the end of a Steve Morison headed ball. The Den was rocking and we raised the level further with a ear splitting roar and a ear splitting praise of Neil Harris.

And down to Kent we go. It's Gillingham away for the final game
We finished strong and it's Gillingham away for the final game. Gillingham have dropped out of the Play-off's and are now in eighth spot and they must beat us and hope that other scores go their way. It would be the dogs if we could beat them and go into the play-off with an unbeaten momentum.

Supporters player of the year

MSC player of the year took place a few days back and Jordan Archer took the trophy. He has had a blinding season and for a young bloke setting out on his football career he seems to have maturity above his age and deserves the award. Lee Gregory was runner up who I must admit I thought would win it and Ben Thompson got third. There was no place for Steve Morison who has finished the season strong and has lead by example with his intelligence and his skill with the ball, perhaps next year for him.

2/5/16 Walsall won their game in hand today so we get knocked back down to fourth spot

Saturday 23 April 2016

Bury 1 Millwall 3, League One, Game 44, 23/4/16, att: 3,669 (914)

Gigg Lane

Chris Taylor steps up and cometh the man and cometh the goals and a cheeky back heel assist that set up Steve Morison who buries again.

We are one point away of making it certain that we secure a play-off spot and we still have a slim chance of securing a automatic promotion spot. We have been in a play-off position since we beat Chesterfield away back on the 23rd of January and with two games to go it would be a crime if we did not stay there. This win today

The travelling 914 were probably heard all over Greater Manchester

Jordan Archer was called upon early in this game to save and early clearances from Bryon Webster and Joe Martin meant that mid table Bury was going to give us a game but it wasn't long before we got a corner and Chris Taylor scored his first of the game and his second for the Lions when his ball from the corner curled directly into the goal. Taylor was having chances but it was Steve Morison who got our second when Chris Taylor inside the Bury penalty area who was on the ball yet again back heeled to Steve Morison who stroked the ball home. It looked like we were going to finish the first half well on top but football being football meant that it would be Bury who finished the half with their tails up as they pulled a goal back in the 2nd minute of first half extra time.

Chris Taylor gets his 2nd

Was we going to hold on to the lead as Bury followed on from their late first half goal looking for the equaliser, or would we add to our score? Mark Beevers and Bryon Webster were handling everything that come their way and although Bury had more of the ball we were to score again when Steve Morison broke on the left and travelled into the box before sending the ball back for Taylor to slot it home and the points were ours.
Tony Craig come on for the last few minutes as he has now recovered from his long term injury and looks to be ready for action. Perhaps next season'
A good day out.

Millwall 1 Fleetwood 0, League One, Game 43, 19/4/16, att: 7,865 (away 83)

TUESDAY NIGHT AND A BIT MORE DRAMA

Promotion chasing but less than 8000, Fleetwood's 83 is our lowest Den away gate for many a season

I was looking forward to this and more so after the defeat at Coventry. I fancied us to beat Fleetwood and I wasn't disappointed but the way the game panned out was ugly but this time in the season a win ugly will do just fine. The first half was poor and well below par on what we would expect for a Millwall side in the play-off mix. Lee Gregory started this game after being on the bench against Coventry and also Jimmy Abdou was back in his usual spot after Shaun Williams red card. Lee Gregory had a early moment but was millimetres away from getting on the end of a cross from Steve Morison and not much more happened after that. Fleetwood are a gritty side and hit the bar and a few minutes after that Mark Beever's had to defend stoutly in the box  " yes, I know it looked liked a penalty but the ref didn't give it so it's not. Fleetwood still have a real risk of being relegated and are giving it ago to stay up, this was their first defeat in six games I do believe.

Lee Gregory was subbed at half time and the injury that he has been carrying for a good few games now appears to need a bit more care and attention and with three more games to go I am wondering what sort of impact he can make to see us over the play-off line. Hopefully we have still a desire on he 2nd automatic promotion spot. Jamie Philpot come on for Gregory and it was his ball to Morison that gave us the only goal of the game.

 GOAL: Steve Morison 52 minutes

What a well crafted goal and a type of quality that can only be scored by somebody who knows what they are doing. Jamie Philpot provided the header and Steve Morison scored. They are calling Morison's goal a lob, calling it a lob downgrades the skill it took to beat the Fleetwood keeper on the angle. It was a master class in finishing and well worthy of his 17th goal of the season. Chris Taylor nearly had a goal but he went wide with a header which was set up by Morison not long after he scored. Morison was subbed on 70 minutes with a hamstring tweak and Fred Onyedinma took his place. Now it got nervous with Fleetwood pressing and making a go of it and we more or less give up on increasing our lead and we dug in and held onto the final whistle.
A big shout for Jordan Archer who was unbeatable and the quality of his double save at the end was something else and a very nervous type of a joy to watch. Other results went our way apart from Barnsley and we move back into fourth spot. It wasn't fancy football but at this stage anything will do and a ugly three points is just as good any other three points. COYL

As it stands: 1) Wigan 81pts,  2) Burton 78pts,  3) Walsall 75pts,  4) Millwall 72pts,  5) Bradford 71pts,  6) Gillingham 69pts  7) Barnsley 69pts

Coventry 2 Millwall 1, League One, Game 42, 16/4/16, att:11,632 (we take 1,862)

There's always drama

PEAR SHAPED

We seem not to be able to beat a team that is playing with ten men and we seem not to be able to beat a team when we are playing with ten men. We must have been able to do both at some time in the past but no game of that kind springs to mind at the moment.

Lee Gregory on the bench
Was the large Millwall away crowd let down? I suppose we need to ask Shaun Williams and the referee. We took the lead in the 19th minute when Bryon Webster powered in a header from a corner and things were looking good. It didn't look good for long due to Shaun Williams hand bagging with the Coventry drama queen Lameiras and the ref fell for it hook line and sinker and Williams walked.
We made changes. Jimmy Abdou replaced Shane Ferguson and Aiden O'Brien moved to the left midfield. I was gutted that Shane Ferguson was sacrificed in the re-structure after the sending off and it seemed a odd thing to do. Coventry sensed that the advantage that they now had was a golden chance to beat a top side and they were putting the effort in but we kept them at bay and went in at half time still a goal to the good.

Can we keep them at bay second half
We all know now we couldn't and a couple of goals from Coventry eight minutes apart made sure we missed out on the points. We had some good chances after the home sides brace and Joe Martin and Steve Morison both come close. A rare away defeat but we were unlucky and we gave it a go right to the end. We had Tony Craig on the bench making his return to the team and Neil Harris did not go down the route of stiffening up by having a extra man at the back.  Fleetwood at home Tuesday night and off we go again.

As it stands with four games to go  (Walsall have five)

1 Wigan 80pts---2 Burton 77pts---3 Walsall 74pts---4 Bradford 71pts---5 Millwall 69pts---6 Gillingham 68pts-----7 Barnsley 66pts

Ashley Nadesan and other things

A few things going on

The first of the last five games starts tomorrow

Neil Harris is impressed
We trail a Combined Counties League striker Ashley Nadesan. He plays for Horley Town FC and has scored close on 100 goals in the last couple of seasons. Horley is located down near Gatwick Airport and nearby Brighton has shown interest in him. It seems that a few more clubs are also looking at him such as Norwich, Leicester and Colchester. I am sure that we can't match some of their resources but we had him in a Millwall shirt playing for the under 21s and he scored a goal in his second game against Barnsley. We got in first which may count for something and we have done well dipping into non-league in the past, Neil Harris and Lee Gregory springs to mind.  Time will tell regarding McDonalds worker Nadesan

Club Captain
Long term injured Tony Craig is also playing for the under 21's and looks like he could be on the bench for the Coventry game tomorrow

Sold Out
Alan Dunne's book The Hard Way is sold out and there is going to be a second run anytime soon.

Sold out-Livening up the Ricoh Arena
We have sold close on 2000 tickets for the away game at Coventry tomorrow. I am hoping we go some way of easing the pain of the 4-0 drubbing they gave us at the Den last August

A couple of strays

Lee Martin has returned from his loan at Northampton and Alfie Pavey returns injured from his loan spell at Aldershot Town.

Millwall 3 Shrewsbury Town 1, League One, Game 41, 9/4/16, att: 9,583 (560)

THERE'S A LEAGUE ONE TUSSLE GOING ON AND WE ARE IN THE THICK OF IT

There's now five games to go and the three points won in this game all adds to the thrill of being near the top. We move into the 4th spot after eventually overtaking Gillingham who a few months back were streets ahead of us and looking certain to go up. Walsall have tumbled and Burton don't look like they can handle the pressure. Burton have got six point gap between them and the much improved Bradford City who sit in third place so Burton may be able to hold on but time will tell  We want the second place spot and it's possible and do-able but we need to win, win and keep winning. Wigan sit top with a ten point gap between them and third so I reckon they should hold on to that

LIGHT THE BLUE TOUCH PAPER

According to Byron Webster Neil Harris gave them a half time bollocking. That does not surprise me because the first half we was pony and we needed a shot of reality to turn this game around. We certainly done that and it was a reverse for Aiden O'Brien who was subbed at half-time at Colchester but came on as a substitute at half time for this game and helped to liven things up with the help of the rest of the team who now had a bit more zest about them. After just 12 second half minutes Ben Thompson's first league goal was something to see and the way he controlled the long Shrewsbury clearance with his chest and then from 3 yards outside the box volleyed the ball into the back of the net was quality. He worked his nuts off for the rest of the game and may have got a second.

Goal number two and we take the lead
2-1

With the noise racked up in the Den after Ben Thompson's goal Shrewsbury were now  on the back foot and it did not take long,  just four minutes and Steve Morison wins a header and it flashes towards the goal and beats the keeper's to his right. There was still half hour to go in this game but we out worked and frustrated the opposition creating chances but did not whack in another one until extra time when Lee Gregory took a hit from the Shrews keeper inside the box and got up off the ground and buried the penalty. The keeper got sent off.

2nd half and that's more like it

We now sit in 4th spot with 69 points and with five games to go we are 7 points from 2nd placed Burton and we have a 7 point cushion below us.

It's a good time at the moment following the Wall but the first half display is a bit of a worry

Colchester United 0 Millwall 0, League One, Game 40, 2/4/16, att:5,377 ( 1,700)

That's game 40  we were not at our best and we take home a point.

66 pts and six games to go

Recently improved Colchester did not stop us playing, it was ourselves who were off the standard that we have set. We had chances and Colchester were ordinary but our sharpness and awareness was missing. We still worked hard and there was a few individual moments that reached our expected level but in the end we were not consistent enough. Hopefully that all makes sense but it was funny old game and after the Burton encounter this game seemed a bit naff.

Jordan Archer

The first half was quickly forgotten but what does stick is the half time substitution of Aiden O'Brien. Shane Ferguson come on and he added more graft to the side and although we improved and had chances we could not score. Strong in defence made sure that Colchester also fell short.

Talking of falling short, I thought we were down on the vocal and I did see Lee Gregory urging us to make some noise.

Millwall 2 Burton Albion 0, League One, Game 39, 28/3/16,att: 8012, (244)

We get back to our winning ways with a superb gutsy 2-0 win over the leagues top side. The defeat at wind battered Bradford seems a distant pass and it sets us up nicely for the away trip to Colchester this Saturday coming. Colchester have won their last two games and although they are in the relegation mire I am sure their two wins will give them momentum and I presume belief. Should be a game

On The Telly-Live On Sky

Nigel Clough said they were good for the first ten minutes. I added, "but then it went down hill from there.

WE KEEP BURTON AT BAY

Once we got going I thought Burton were lightweight especially in the midfield compared to us and we were competitive all over the pitch winning more or less every header from attack to defence and causing Burton to concede possession back to us. We had more drive, more  passion, more zip and more nous to overcome a side who can't seem to win in front of the Sky cameras. Summing up I would say "we was all over them,

Lee Gregory was on fire, he set up Aiden O'Brien to score on twelve minutes and scored one of his own six minutes later. He was picking balls up coming over the top with good control, lay off's and touches and as Burton was playing high up the pitch this was a frequent occurrence. There was a big shout for a penalty when Lee Gregory was tripped/tugged but took a while to go down. It looked to me that he tried to stay up which was probably a mistake.

The back four and Jordan Archer mopped everything up that come there way and once again Mahlon Romeo was doing his usual work and Joe Martin had one of his best games. Mark Beevers and Byron Webster deserve a mention because these two are earning their corn.  A great night and a great result. A loud crowd but the only negative was the size of the crowd but being on Sky and a night game and back to work the next day after a holiday period there may have been some who couldn't make it. Burton fetched down 244 so I could imagine that they had the same excuses.

Bradford City 1 Millwall 0, League One, Game 38, 26/3/16, att:18, 538 (500)

WE MAKE FOUR CHANGES FOR THIS GAME

A lousy day weather wise and also a lousy day score wise. I cannot gripe and moan because that was our first away defeat in eight games and it would not have been but with just eleven minutes of normal time left on the clock we were slow to pick up a quick throw-in from Bradford and a quick ball crossed into the Lions box saw Bradford head home.
We started this game with a few changes due to international call ups and we were missing Shane Ferguson and Jimmy Abdou from our midfield and David Forde was missing from the subs bench. Lee Gregory and Chris Taylor did not start and sat on the bench. I know that Gregory has been carrying a injury for awhile and as we have a game against Burton Albion in two days time I can understand why he did not start but I am not absolutely sure why Taylor did not start but I think I heard or read some where that he is carrying a knock. The four players that started instead were Ed Upson, Shaun Williams, Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O'Brien and on paper a four man replacement team that should not be far off the quality than the players they replaced. We started on the front foot from the off and a decent penalty shout after a couple of minutes when Fred was impeded in the box.  Not long after that Bradford come close but not close enough. The rest of the first half was both teams trading action around each others goal but the swirling wind and rain sodden pitch produced not ideal conditions for a slick pretty game and a few clumsy tackles and yellow cards were picked up by both teams. The yellow card given to Joe Martin was a absolute joke.

The second half and Jordan Archer saves well from a close up shot but it was off-side so no worries.
ChrisTaylor come on early in the second half replacing Ed Upson and Lee Gregory replaced O'Brien.
Bradford were making changes also and although the wind and rain and the heavy pitch was dictating the game both teams were making chances and were going for it. Bradford banged it in with twelve minutes to go and after that we had a golden chance when Steve Morison shot a cracker towards goal but the Bradford keeper Williams flew across the goal and somehow finger tipped the ball away. We tried hard to get the equaliser and even Jamie Philpot come on but it wasn't to be and it's Burton Albion at the Den Bank Holiday Monday evening and a chance to get back to our winning ways. Fierce winds are forecast for Monday in London but it should ease off  late afternoon so hopefully no issues with the game.

Promotion Challenge: we had chances for more but the one will do

Back at home and we are playing Game No 1 of the last ten games of the season and its hard graft for the three points and well appreciated by us. Ten thousand Lion supporters turned up for this game and the Den was getting near to the noise we used create before the three years of misery and stuck in the doldrums. Neil Harris and his players are putting in a shift for every game and although we were not slick and fancy for this game we made up for it in commitment, intelligence and a dogged resistance to see this game out. Well  done Wall and a double well done to Chris Taylor who making his debut for a 2nd time for the Lions lashed the ball home with less than 2 minutes on the clock and a perfect start. We guarded that lead for the rest of the game and nobody was going to take it from us. Other scores above us did not go our way on the day and we still sit in 5th spot with a 4 point cushion.

Swindon 2 Millwall 2, League Game 36, 12/3/16, att: 8,623 (we take 1,247)

Who lives near a place like this?  If I didn't know any better I would say the referee

Homer referee Kevin Wright hands Swindon a dodgy penalty and a chance to get back into a game that up to that point they were never in it. That was one of the most softest penalty decisions I think I have ever seen and throughout the game he favoured Swindon and I think the stats prove that. We were the better side, we were more clinical, more strong and had plenty of desire to win not just this game but a couple of games but we didn't have the ref in our pocket. Stitched up or what?.

Lee Gregory and Steve Morison both score early

It did not take us long to bang in a couple as Neil Harris's Lions thundered into a two goal lead. There must more to follow as the early play showed the team were up for this one and wanted to put in a good shift in front of the travelling 1200. Playing like we did there is nobody we couldn't beat in this league and to see the Lions get mugged later in the game proves that a bit more guile and a bit more savey needs to be learnt and learnt fast if we want automatic promotion out of this league. The way that the home side got back in this game mugged us and it gave them a shot of energy to go for another goal or given the chance another penalty and the ref would have fell for that as well. We had 27+ minutes to hold on to the 2-1 lead but for them to score in the 94th minute and level it to 2-2 was hard to take. That performance was close to old school Millwall and I was proud to watch them.

Millwall 3 Blackpool 0, League One, Game 35, 5/3/16, att: 9,753 (245)

LET EM ALL COME DOWN TO THE DEN

Much troubled Blackpool come to visit

None of the four teams above us won this weekend so we close the gap

Blackpool were not much of a threat as we continue to add points to our tally and close on the automatic promotion spots. As we know we could not score against Wigan on Tuesday night but today it seemed simple as Lee Gregory, Steve Morison and Jed Wallace with his first for the Lions sent Blackpool back home with the threat of relegation firmly hanging around their necks. While I sympathise with the Blackpool supporters regarding how their club is owned and run there is no charity in football when it comes to results and certainly no charity from me as we earn another three points and I and many others enjoy the weekend.

Plenty of pressure

With just eight minutes in it did not take Lee Gregory long to bang in another goal and bring his goal tally to 21 in all competitions. He has certainly clicked in to gear this season and without doubt he has won his spurs as a League One striker. Joe Martin was suspended for this game and Carlos Edwards who was back in the side aimed a long throw towards Gregory who breezed by two defenders and buried the ball with his head.
Tuesday night it was difficult to score with so many chances but today it was so simple. Funny game football.

Mahlon Romeo has been a breath of fresh air since he put on the shirt and there was some excellent play between him and Jed Wallace which nearly resulted in Lee Gregory getting his second but not this time as the ball went wide of the post. Carlos Edwards who working well was clattered to the ground on 23 minutes and Jed Wallace banged in the resulting 25 yard free kick beating the Blackpool wall with ease. We dominated the first half and could have a few more.

Mahlon Romeo from defence to attack

I like the craft and graft of young Ben Thompson and he nearly scored with just over ten minutes into the second half but maybe next game. Carlos Edwards was fouled again and had to leave the field hurt so hopefully not to serious as we could do with him for the run in to the end of the season. Blackpool did seem to be a bit more organised for the 2nd half and although we were having chances we did not add our third goal till the 87th minute when we were awarded a penalty (yes! a penalty) for hand-ball in front of the Cold Blow Lane Stand and Steve Morison buried it.
Next game is down or is it up the M4 and away to Swindon.

Millwall 0 Wigan Athletic 0, League One, Game 34, 1/3/16, att:7,981 (281)

The most one sided game that I think I have ever seen

Wigan sit above us in second spot and are much fancied
Every player was having a pop but if it wasn't saved it "flew wide"

Walking down Ilderton Road after the game I overheard a bloke talking to his mate saying that we had enough chances to have won five games. I make him right because every player was having a pop at the Wigan Goal. Even before Wigan went down to ten men in the 37th minute we were ripping into them and thoughts were that it would not be long before we took the lead. It didn't happen and ten man Wigan nicked a point.
Some of our finishing was 'it flew wide and I cannot believe how many times balls into the Wigan box were wasted because nobody could get on the end of one, frustrating or what?  That's my moan done because we did play well and it was at such a high tempo that the opposition did not threaten and if they had a game plan I am sure it went out the window as they hung on to this game helped by their 40 year old keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen who played a blinder. He was the major factor in that we did not score when we had one of our numerous shots on target, ask Jimmy Abdou or any other player because they all had a go apart from Jordan Archer who was a bystander for most of the night.
We should have had a penalty when Lee Gregory was brought down in the box but as per the ref waved play on. I am not even sure we would have scored from a penalty as it was one of those nights. We are still in play-off's and how can we not win our way out of this division playing like we did tonight, goals will happen and there's no side we couldn't beat playing like that.
Nearly forgot, second placed promotion chasing Wigan fetched 281, I think that's about half a coach load.

Doncaster Rovers 1 Millwall 1, League One, Game 33, 27/2/16, att: 6810 (we take 825)

HOW DID STEVE MORISON MISS THAT?

All the other games around and above us apart from Wigan went more or less our way and as all points are valuable this one was gratefully received, We started with the same team that took the field against Peterborough and our Ben Thompson had a shot deflected from goal with just a few minutes gone.A couple of minutes later Steve Morison lobbed the Doncaster keeper and we were 1-0 up.With Doncaster pressing and threatening our goal we counter attacked which is one of our trade marks away from home and a four man move which finished with Shane Ferguson hitting in a cross that was dealt with by the defender and we did not increase our lead. On the half hour we should have been awarded a penalty when Lee Gregory who was setting himself up for a finish had his shirt nearly ripped off his back by a Doncaster defender but the ref chose to ignore it but we still managed a corner and Gregory fired a shot on goal which went for another corner.

Millwall "old boy" has something to prove

Doncaster Rovers had not won in the last four games and the early period you could see why but on 37 minutes ex Millwall Richard Chaplow thumped the ball home to equalise for the home side. Don't you just know that would be the case. We were all holding our breath as Chaplow was lurking again just before half-time but this time Jordan Archer made a superb save and we went in at half time all square.

2nd Half

How did Steve Morison miss that? I must say that again, how did Steve Morison miss that? With the 2nd half barely a few minutes old Lee Gregory set up Morison who seemed to have his boot laces tied together completely missed the ball and a open goal. I think its being blamed on a "bobble" It was even Stevens for a while as both sides where ending up in the oppositions box and Shane Ferguson in particular putting in a shift and putting in some decent balls into the box, if only. Jordan Archer was saving everything that ended up his way. From a corner Bryon Webster's firm header was saved and shortly afterwards Lee Gregory was brought down while racing towards the Doncaster goal. With seconds left on the clock Archer was there again to made sure we went home with at least a point. I am sure with the way we have been playing away this season that the side is disappointed that they did not win this game but no ground lost and Wigan at home Tuesday night is something that I can't wait for and hopefully we can follow on from our 3-0 defeat of Peterborough and continue winning at home. We have Blackpool at home Saturday and I am looking for six points for the two games. I know,  but as the song goes 'let em all come down to the Den.

TUESDAY NIGHT WAS JUST A BLIP

We were not at our best Tuesday night when we lost to Scunthorpe and that had started the moans on the forums regarding how good are we. Thinking about the play-off's or maybe a top two spot has been on our minds and maybe we had bigged ourselves up on what we could actually achieve. After this game I reckon we can achieve a lot and hopefully Tuesday night was just a blip.

Always there

From the off the Den was roaring on the Lions and it was good to see and hear that those in the stands were not excepting or expecting another Scunthorpe performance. We were better that Tuesday as I knew we would be because after all the Scunthorpe defeat was the first defeat after five wins and a draw in the league and as a team in the play-off's we must have something about us.The Peterborough boss made me chuckle when I read his thoughts after the game.....they played pretty much as we thought they would, there was no surprises for us, we prepared for everything that come our away. There's more of his words of wisdom on the net and he maybe another dugout boss who is shown the door after getting beat by the Wall.

In the pink

Good numbers from Peterborough

As I said we were going for this from the off but Peterborough had the first chance when they won a free kick, nothing come of it and it was not long before Lee Gregory looking at goal picked up a ball from a Jed Wallace cross but the opposition blocked and cleared. We continued to pressure and with Shane Ferguson who started this game in midfield creating play higher up the pitch we were busy around the Peterborough goal. With nearly 15 minutes gone I have no idea what Mark Beever's was thinking of when he was near the half way line and he whacked a back pass so high and long in the air to goal keeper Jordan Archer, what could he do? he couldn't catch it or touch it as it was a back pass but what a save as he back headed it over the bar. The video of this is all over the internet but just in case you have not seen it.
skysports watch-millwall-goalkeeper-jordan-archer I think they are calling it 'save of the season. It was 0-0 at that point and a goal for Peterborough would have been a game changer.
***
Steve Morison scored a couple in this game and the first was headed home on 30 minutes when Ferguson picked up the ball and scooted through the middle and played the ball to Lee Gregory who fired one in which the keeper blocked, Gregory won the loose ball and set Morison up to score his first of the game with a close in header. Peterborough made a few changes at the start of the second half and one of these changes who hadn't been on the pitch for 20 seconds cynically flattened Jed WaIlace and should have walked but his punishment was just a yellow. It did not take us long in the second half to extend our lead when Gregory who was looking for his twentieth goal of the season had already threatened earlier in the game headed home after receiving the ball from a Mark Beevers flick. He's record for his last ten games is quality, ten goals in ten games, and twenty overall in all competitions.
Also I have looked at the stats and we have not lost a game where he has scored. A good little buy from FC Halifax and he is grafting hard.
***
A happy place was the Den at this point and it got happier when Morison got his 2nd on 62 minutes and the Lions third. This goal was also a header as he connected with a Shane Ferguson corner and we were 3-0 up and comfortable. Steve Morison was looking for his hat-trick and was set up nicely from a Jed Wallace cross but he was just a gnats testicle away from connecting with it. He was substituted with a little over quarter of a hour on the clock to go and Lee Gregory quickly followed. With John Marquis and Aiden O'Brien now on the pitch we saw the game out and took the points.
We are coming to the final run in of the season and there is 14 league games to play and 42 points available. I wonder how many of them we would end up with. There's no prediction from me as I don't want to put the mockers on it but 30 would be nice.
I (we) have not had to worry about top of the table stats for a good few years so its different and its a joy. COYL

Millwall 0 Scunthorpe 2, League One, Game 31, 16/2/16, att:8,036 (173)

You get games like this

Mushroom Picking?
The game:

That's the end of our unbeaten run and lets hope we can start another one

I don't really want to raise the effort to think about this game because we were way off the mark. We got beat by a bunch of spoilers who were spending so much time lying on the grass I thought they were picking mushrooms. It would be nice to see at home some creative midfield play but nothing seen like that in this game.  If we picked the ball up or was passed the ball in a midfield position it wasn't long before we lost it which doubled the work load the defence had to deal with. Just after 15 minutes Sid Nelson cleared with a whack to anywhere, it went straight to a Scunthorpe player and "bang' we were 1-0 down. If we have not got the midfield skills needed to create lets at least get in and win the second ball and if we need to win it again. Counter attacking football we play away from home is more direct and normally away we do not have to deal with five behind the ball.

Gutted but they will go again

Scunthorpe scored late to seal the win and it may have been different. Lee Gregory had a golden chance on the hour after picking up a superb ball from Jed Wallace and having beaten the keeper he put it wide. That miss hurt Gregory and we weren't happy either.

Still 6th place in the League and still a three point gap.

There is now a referral to this sell off of our our land and now it's a chance for Millwall FC to voice it's aspirations for the club and it's assets and let them know we have every right to be involved in decisions that will impact on the club and all of our futures.. We must get this right

18/2/16, The petition has now reached 17000 and still climbing. The comments left on the web-site by people who signed the petition are amazing and it shows that not just Millwall supporters are against this council madness, thanks to them all including George from Crawley.

8/3/16, It now stands at 18,861

Rochdale 0 Millwall 1, League One, Game 30, 13/2/16, att;2,882 (we take 873)

A solid worked away win in a windy wet northern town at a football club with hardly any supporters

It's been awhile since we last played here, which was back in the 60's. We won that game then and keeping with the theme we won again. Lee Gregory was once again on target which now makes his overall tally of 19 goals this season and our 5th away win on the bounce, happy days. It was a bit of a journey for the team coming up for this game and it took them seven hours to get there, the weather was absolute crap. The pitch was taking a battering from the rain as the game got under way and the wet heavy pitch did not stop us creating chances and slinging in a few corners. Rochdale were giving it a go and the game swung one way then the other.

The second 45 minutes carried on much about the same as the first with the Lions putting in a shift all over the pitch. Sid Nelson and Mahion Romeo deserve a mention for the work that they put in and it didn't take long for Lee Gregory to score as he picked up the ball from a Steve Morison miss-hit shot. The 882 travelling Wall supporters who made up nearly a third of the attendance and with most of the second half still to go roared on the Lions to the finish. We finished strong and our counter attacking play gave Rochdale problems to the end. That's another away win and another three points, as I said earlier "happy days"

Walsall 0 Millwall 3, League One, Game 29, att:4,843 (Lions away 749)

The home side did have chances and hit the woodwork twice and Jordan Archer was producing his trademark double saves to keep fancied Walsall at bay

We have been rocking on the road and this is a excellent win and one of the best if not the best away win of the season. Sid Nelson was back in the side due to Mark Beevers suspension and we defended strong and it stopped Walsall from adding to their points total at the top of the table. It also made sure that we retained our play-off position and now a +9 goal difference. Mahion Romeo made his Millwall debut and he scored a cracker squeezed in-between two goals from Lee Gregory and they were all scored in the second half.
We finished the first half strongly and even though Walsall hit the bar the second half was all to play for.

That's 13 points from the last 15

Walsall were testing us as the second half got into its stride and they were looking to score. They were having play around the Lions goal and Ferguson done well to clear .On 61 minutes Gregory scored when Jed Wallace sent a ball in from the right and our leading goal scorer scored close in. Not to long after Sid Nelson made two proper old skool Millwall type blocks to keep the home side from scoring and cue Romeo who when picking up the ball from Jed Wallace run into the box and struck the ball low down and beat the Walsall keeper. 2-0 and there was still time for more and Gregory disappoint when he was served the ball from Shaun Williams and run in on goal before firing a shot home. The points were ours and the travelling Wall who had been loud and proud throughout the game made sure that the team were cheered and clapped off in away that they new this was a first class result and its going to be a very good journey home.
