Millwall 3 Peterborough 0, League One, Game 32, 20/2/16, att:8722 (away 763)

TUESDAY NIGHT WAS JUST A BLIP

We were not at our best Tuesday night when we lost to Scunthorpe and that had started the moans on the forums regarding how good are we. Thinking about the play-off's or maybe a top two spot has been on our minds and maybe we had bigged ourselves up on what we could actually achieve. After this game I reckon we can achieve a lot and hopefully Tuesday night was just a blip.

Always there

From the off the Den was roaring on the Lions and it was good to see and hear that those in the stands were not excepting or expecting another Scunthorpe performance. We were better that Tuesday as I knew we would be because after all the Scunthorpe defeat was the first defeat after five wins and a draw in the league and as a team in the play-off's we must have something about us.The Peterborough boss made me chuckle when I read his thoughts after the game.....they played pretty much as we thought they would, there was no surprises for us, we prepared for everything that come our away. There's more of his words of wisdom on the net and he maybe another dugout boss who is shown the door after getting beat by the Wall.

Good numbers from Peterborough

As I said we were going for this from the off but Peterborough had the first chance when they won a free kick, nothing come of it and it was not long before Lee Gregory looking at goal picked up a ball from a Jed Wallace cross but the opposition blocked and cleared. We continued to pressure and with Shane Ferguson who started this game in midfield creating play higher up the pitch we were busy around the Peterborough goal. With nearly 15 minutes gone I have no idea what Mark Beever's was thinking of when he was near the half way line and he whacked a back pass so high and long in the air to goal keeper Jordan Archer, what could he do? he couldn't catch it or touch it as it was a back pass but what a save as he back headed it over the bar. The video of this is all over the internet but just in case you have not seen it.
skysports watch-millwall-goalkeeper-jordan-archer I think they are calling it 'save of the season. It was 0-0 at that point and a goal for Peterborough would have been a game changer.

Steve Morison scored a couple in this game and the first was headed home on 30 minutes when Ferguson picked up the ball and scooted through the middle and played the ball to Lee Gregory who fired one in which the keeper blocked, Gregory won the loose ball and set Morison up to score his first of the game with a close in header. Peterborough made a few changes at the start of the second half and one of these changes who hadn't been on the pitch for 20 seconds cynically flattened Jed WaIlace and should have walked but his punishment was just a yellow. It did not take us long in the second half to extend our lead when Gregory who was looking for his twentieth goal of the season had already threatened earlier in the game headed home after receiving the ball from a Mark Beevers flick. He's record for his last ten games is quality, ten goals in ten games, and twenty overall in all competitions.
Also I have looked at the stats and we have not lost a game where he has scored. A good little buy from FC Halifax and he is grafting hard.

A happy place was the Den at this point and it got happier when Morison got his 2nd on 62 minutes and the Lions third. This goal was also a header as he connected with a Shane Ferguson corner and we were 3-0 up and comfortable. Steve Morison was looking for his hat-trick and was set up nicely from a Jed Wallace cross but he was just a gnats testicle away from connecting with it. He was substituted with a little over quarter of a hour on the clock to go and Lee Gregory quickly followed. With John Marquis and Aiden O'Brien now on the pitch we saw the game out and took the points.
We are coming to the final run in of the season and there is 14 league games to play and 42 points available. I wonder how many of them we would end up with. There's no prediction from me as I don't want to put the mockers on it but 30 would be nice.
I (we) have not had to worry about top of the table stats for a good few years so its different and its a joy. COYL
